Buying in markets
Today consumers are mainly interested in knowing about the origin of the food they eat, the different ways it can be produced in, to eat quality food and to curb food expenses.
Food safety and traceability, transparency and guarantees for consumers are the basis which the world of producers and that of consumers meet upon. The direct relationship between producers and consumers, and hence the shortening of the agricultural production and distribution process, is undoubtedly the answer to this question.
To meet the need to protect the cultural, social and economic heritage consisting in the agriculture of the Roman countryside, in 2003 the "Register of agricultural producers who sell their products directly in the Rome municipality" was established.
In local markets, thanks to distinctive signs, producers who come from the Roman countryside can easily be identified.
In addition, the Assessorato alle Politiche Ambientali ed Agricole del Comune e della Provincia di Roma (town council for environmental and agricultural policies of Rome municipality and province) has promoted the “Lo Sportello filiera corta” (short production and distribution line counter), managed by AIAB (Italian organisation for organic agriculture). This was created with the intention of helping the supply and demand of certified organic agricultural products to meet, promoting the direct sale of local products and abetting and enhancing the creation of buyers’ groups.
Here you will find the descriptions of all the producers who have joined the Register, divided according to which municipality and local market they sell their wares in.
