Historical and natural attractions

This itinerary's treasure is located along the coast, in the Riserva Naturale Statale del Litorale Romano (State Nature Reserve of the Roman Coast). Apart from the wonderful dune beaches, it has the magnificent Castel Fusano and Castel Porziano pinewoods where rare animal species, such as tortoises, live unmolested.

A BOAT TRIP ON THE TIBER

"The Tiber guides us through the secrets of an extraordinary area, and takes us through the history, traditions and legends of the territory it crosses. It maps out the route between two points: its source and the sea. Although its appearance is now somewhat less imposing, the Tiber is the 'river of history', fatal and magic, the 'sky-blue' link between history and legend". (Marco Scataglini, from "Il Viaggio del Tevere" Ed. ITER 2004).
This ancient magic can be freshly experienced on a boat trip from Ponte Marconi to Old Ostia.  Expert guides (bookable via CEA) will take visitors, first on the boat and then by foot, through an unexpected and spontaneous natural setting, to places which are soaked in ancient Roman history. Bicycle rides along the banks of the Tiber are also possible.
